Huangshan Overview
Huangshan City is a region with a long history and splendid cultures. To visit Huangshan City, there are two things you must see and experience, Yellow Mountain and Hui Culture. Its two oldest Counties established during Qing Dynasty, Shexian and Yixian have more than 2300 years history. In the Song Dynasty (960-1279) Huangshan City was been named as Huizhou. This name of Huangshan City is still been used popularly in China, because of its remarkable achievement and contribution of education, philosophy, art and business in Chinese History.
There are numerous beautiful mountains and peaks with peaceful lake and following rivers in the surroundings of Huangshan City. The marvelous spectacle of the Yellow Mountain Scenic Area has a reputation of being a Chinese national treasure, known as “the loveliest mountain of China” for its scenic spots, pine forest, rocks, seas of clouds and hot springs. In addition, Yellow Mountain has already been recorded on the world natural and cultural heritage list by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization.
As a significant part of historical and cultural heritage of China, the glorious and magnificent Hui Culture should be mentioned. It is represented by Hui Philosophy (e.g., Four Commandments: Loyalty, Filial Piety, Benevolence, and Righteousness), Hui Shang (merchant of Huizhou), Huidiao (sculptures of Huizhou), Hui Paintings, Hui Pengjing (miniature landscapes of Huizhou) and Hui architecture, Hui Cuisine, Hui local opera. Lots of “culture museums” deserve a visit for travelers to touch and get to know Hui Culture, for example, Tunxi Old Street of Huangshan City, Shexian Tangyue Stone Arches and Yixian ancient folk house building group.
